Woodford GOP Seeks County Board Candidates for Shoemaker Vacancy
The Woodford County Republican Central Committee is seeking persons interested in filling the Third District vacancy created by the resignation of County Board member Chris Shoemaker. County Republican spokesman Jim Fyke said that precinct committeemen of the Third District will hold a caucus on June 26th to fill two different positions created because of the timing of the vacancy.
One person will be recommended to the County Board for appointment to serve as interim Board member until a replacement is elected in the November general election. That term of office will be approximately five months. The County Board chairman will appoint the replacement, with the approval of the full Board.
The second slot to be filled is for a person who will be slated for election on November 2 to fill the remainder of Shoemaker’s unexpired term. The person elected to that position will take office in December when newly elected County Board members are seated and will serve for two years. By State law, vacancies occurring after the primary election has already been held are to be filled by each political party's Central Committee. The Committeemen of the County Board district in which the vacancy exists will have the responsibility for selecting the replacement. The selected person’s name will be placed on the ballot in a special section indicating that the person is running for an unexpired term for a period of two years.
Persons interested in serving in either of the two positions must be registered Republicans residing in the Third District, which comprises Cruger, Olio, Metamora and Montgomery Townships. Interested parties should contact their respective Republican precinct committeeman or the chairman of the Third District Caucus, Dennis Kroll, at 467-4348 by June 25.
Committeemen for the Third County Board District are Marshall G. Smith, Cruger; Scott A. Weddle, Metamora 1; William A. Christ, Metamora 3; Ronald K. Smith, Olio 1; James L. Fyke, Olio 2; Dennis E. Kroll, Olio 3; Melvin R. Hartter, Olio 4; Douglas R. Simpson, Montgomery 1, and Paul D. Burton, Montgomery 2.
