Woodford GOP Honors Jim Durst & Glenn Knapp
Quentin “Jim” Durst, longtime Sheriff of Woodford County, legislative
aide to several Senators and Representatives and former chairman of the county
Republican organization, was honored at the July meeting of the Republican
Central Committee in Eureka for over 50 years of service.
GOP chairman Jim Booth, of Germantown Hills, appointed Durst an honorary
Chairman Emeritus for his contributions to the people of Woodford County and to
the Republican Party. The central committee had voted to confer the honor
earlier this year, but was delayed due to Durst’s illness.
Former Senator Robert Madigan, who initially employed Durst, gave a short
presentation, followed by Representative Keith Sommer and former Representative
Jay Ackerman, both of Morton. Also adding their commendations were Senator Dale
Risinger and Representative Dave Leitch, both of Peoria, who now represent half
of Woodford County under the re-districting plan. Senator Dan Rutherford was
unable to attend, but sent a letter of commendation, which was read to the
audience by Booth.
Circuit Judge John Huschen, States Attorney Mike Stroh, and Circuit Clerk Carol
Newtson and County Board Member Pete Lambie represented Woodford elected
officials, and County Board Jim Unsicker brought congratulations from Tazewell
County.
Booth also conferred a n honorary precinct committeeman emeritus award upon
Glenn Knapp of Montgomery Township, who also has served 50 years in his post
prior to his retirement. Knapp was unable to attend and will be given his award
later at a special meeting with Booth and Representative Sommer.
